are prayers answered?

Was it a dream?

On the morning of May 18th, 2018 to be exact, there was torrential downpour of rain with v high gusty winds blowing. Lashing mercilessly changing direction every now & then.  Looked like a curtain of water beating down from the heavens.

I was driving to teach my morning yoga class, wondering if any students would show up.  Not easy to drive in blinding rainfall and flooding side roads.  Visibility was close to zero and my eyes strained to look through the quick movement of the wipers.  As I approached the traffic light, I slowed down. The light was red and with the slower speed, the rain seemed less erratic. There were cars ahead of me. Just then my attention went to a woman walking on the sidewalk to my right. She was holding an old tattered umbrella turned inside out, and with it was trying to fight the wind gusts from lashing the rain on her face.  It looked futile.

She was v meagerly dressed & was probably on her way to work in someone’s house.   

In THAT moment, Something/Someone inspired me to pull my window down on the passenger side, and call out to her loudly “EXCUSE ME!”  To which she responded right away by turning her body towards me to look at who was calling. I reached for my umbrella on the passenger seat & extended it out to her.  She took the umbrella, overjoyed. The light has changed to green just then & I started moving again.  

I heard her blessings coming my way in the midst of the noise of thunder & rain.  My heart smiled.  My face lit up. Tears filled my eyes and my throat was choked with emotion. Realization in that moment of my own shelter from what seemed like a raging storm, safe in my car.  I was deeply & silently grateful. 

Was it a slow motion dream that I had witnessed?  Was it her prayer in that moment that was answered by Source, through me? What are the chances of this brief encounter that I had with a distressed pedestrian calling the Universe for help.  

I could not give her a ride for I was moving in the “opposite direction”.  It maybe trivial but it was a profound experience in THAT moment.  

A PRAYER WAS ANSWERED
